Through engaging dialogue and film screenings, this course will teach students how to critically read selected/sampled independent, mainstream, and documentary films as narrative texts in order to critique different visual practices of representations and resistance. The primary lens will be films about Black experiences in Britain. However, we will also screen/discuss narrative fiction films about Senegalese illegal migrants in Spain and trafficked Nigerian sex workers in Italy.
