Last year, I took a course in GIS (Geographic Information Systems), thinking that learning how to use mapping software like ArcGIS would look good on my resume for my intended career in global health. But to be honest, the class was boring. Not to the fault of my instructors – they were great – but as someone who has an uneasy relationship with technology, I’m not terribly inclined to enjoy spending hours in the computer lab on tedious tasks. My goal was to have a practical skill.
