Patrick Oathout (T ’14) created a prototype of Uhuru Mobile for his independent study project with BorderWork(s) in Fall 2011. Uhuru is an app that allows refugees to submit reports on entrepreneurial activity via SMS messaging, email, a webpage and Twitter. This project has received a lot of positive attention in the past 2 years, including recognition from the Clinton Global Initiative.

Initially the app was available only through the crowd-sourced crisis mapping tool Ushaidi. But we just got news from Patrick that the Uhuru is now available independently for iphones, ipads, as well as Android phones and tablets. For download links and more information, please check out the Uhuru project page on this site.
