This is a joint project with the Women’s Health Initiative and the Duke Heart Center to develop a mobile app for iPhones and Android smart phones that aims to improve the numbers of people who can do Compression Only CPR and reduce the numbers of sudden cardiac arrest deaths in Durham. The app not only provides information and instruction on CPR but also guide responders in step‐by-step fashion through the procedure in an emergency. The app also connects to 911 responders and to the nearest cardiac care unit.
The app’s programming component was developed by three computer science seniors from Richard Lucic and Robert Duvall’s Fall 2012 CS 290 class which selected our project as one of their core efforts. Two GTG graduate students, Pinar Yoldas and Zach Blas, assisted in developing the app design, video and graphics.
