Originally from China, Wenyang Sun is a third year PhD student in the School of Education, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is interested in bilingual education and how language acquisition affects minority young learners’ identity formation. She hopes to develop digital methods and tools to implement critical multicultural education in K-12 classrooms, as well as educational apps to empower linguistically and culturally diverse students. Wenyang is fluent in both Mandarin and English. Before she became a PhD student at UNC Chapel Hill, she graduated with a BS in Economics and a BA in English Literature from Zhejiang University, China, and obtained her Master’s degree in Education from Vanderbilt University.
