We are pleased to announce the release of our web collection, Provoke!: Digital Sound Studies. Our print collection by the same name is forthcoming from Duke University Press in Fall 2015.

As a website, Provoke! creates a home for creative-critical projects by makers, documentary artists, and sound scholars whose work presses at the boundaries of scholarship. Envisioned as “provocations” to existing forms of publication, these projects relate to one another through their deep engagement with sonic materials and innovative formal presentation.

The print collection presents essays by scholars pioneering multimedia sound-based research along with those whose work critically engages the culture and history of technologies. By bringing together a vanguard of digital sound studies practitioners, both the book and website aim to provoke more noisy t(h)inkering within the fields of sound studies, digital humanities, and the audio arts and sciences writ large.
