Bass Connection and the FHI Global Brazil Lab invite you to a workshop with Duke alumna Amelia Herbert (2005) to explore the situation of racially and socioeconomically marginalized students in elite universities in the U.S. and South Africa. Ms. Herbert will draw on her experience teaching in Newark New Jersey and a nine month pilot study she conducted in South Africa as a Columbia University graduate student.
With breakout sessions and practicums, this workshop will explore the challenges and effects of social mobility through higher education, issues that stand at the center of the new Bass Connections-GBHL project on the “The Cost of Opportunity? Higher Education and Social Mobility in the Baixada Fluminense”.
