Claire Payton

Claire Antone Payton is a Phd Student in the Department of History, where she works with Laurent Dubois on twentieth-century Haitian history. In 2010 Claire started the Haiti Memory Project (haitimemoryproject.org), an oral history initiative that records, preserves and shares the testimony of Haitian earthquake survivors. Since joining the Haiti Lab community in 2012, Claire has participated in several of the Haiti Lab project, including a research trip to Haiti for the Vodou Archive, creating a website to showcase Vodou Archive materials (sites.fhi.duke.edu/vodouarchive), and co-organizing the conference Haiti and Humanitarianism: Visions and Practice. Claire is also a participant in the PhD Lab for Digital Knowledge.
