People in the Lab

Janani Arangan

  • Trinity '15
  • Department: Environmental Science

During her first semester as an independent study student with the Haiti Lab, Jan assisted Professor Jenson with the project on the historical context of cholera in the Caribbean. Her final presentation focused on Dr. Carlos Finlay’s work documenting the 1865 epidemic in the Havana neighborhood of el Cerro. In the Fall of 2012, she continued this research by closely analyzing Dr. Finlay’s written works and compiling visual data (maps, graphs, etc) on el Cerro and the spread of cholera at the time. Jan is majoring in Environmental Science and studying Kreyol, Spanish, and Portuguese. She hopes to travel to the Caribbean region and especially Haiti to do research on the environment and human health.
