Juyon Kang (Trinity ’11) is currently a first-year JD student at Duke University School of Law. As an undergraduate at Duke, she studied Global Health and International Comparative Studies with a focus in Latin America. In the summer of 2009, she spent two months in Leogane, Haiti with Family Health Ministries, interviewing women in clinics about barriers to accessing health care and most desired medical services. Her senior thesis on violence against women in Haiti, written under the supervision of Professor Deborah Jenson in the Haiti Lab, analyzed various factors that increased women’s vulnerability to violence in Haiti and the consequences of gender-based violence on the victim, her family, and her community.
