Understanding Eating Disorders Through Narrative (NMM Series)

February 11, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

For this month’s session of the Health Humanities Lab’s “Narrative Medicine Mondays” we’ll read about and reflect on how narrative – of the self or as depicted in literature – can affect one’s relationship to food. How did one woman with anorexia learn to enjoy food again by reading about delicious meals in novels? What can we learn from folktales and ancient legends about attitudes regarding our weight? Through reading and reflecting on passages and creative writing prompts we’ll explore this riveting topic. Led by HHL manager and Duke alum Kat Berko, Duke undergrad Steph Ng, and Duke nutritionists Franca Alphin and Melanie Trost. Lunch provided by Parker & Otis.

Location: Duke Student Wellness Center, Room 148
