Jehanne Gheith

A middle aged woman with shoulder length brown hair and a light blue tops smiles at the camera.Jehanne Gheith, one of the co-directors of the Health Humanities Lab, is an Associate Professor and Chair in the Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies and is also affiliated with the Program in Education. She is also a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who has done a lot of work with Duke Hospice and now has a private practice in psychotherapy focusing on narrative, aging, and loss. Author and editor of multiple books and articles on gender in Russia and on the Gulag, her courses and academic work now center on medical ethics and end of life care in the US and Russia, including her current research project on hospice in Russia. She believes in the power of story to hold difficult emotions and to move us forward in our personal lives as well as in our communities.
