AMES 329S: Islamic Media

This course explores how contemporary technologies reawaken the sense of the sacred in daily life, rather than destroy it. In addition, this class investigates how technologies new and old circulate the Word in its multiple incarnations, but also cultivate modes of communal identification. Islamic media transforms the social and political landscape, as well as the way we see/ feel/ and perceive the world. In fact, religion has been intensified, diversified, and inflected by the information age. This media constitutes the very experience of religion. We will explore these concepts through film, video, digital media, satellite television, social media, print media, audiocassettes, radio, music.
