Malina Chavez is an interdisciplinary artist in the Experimental and Documentary Arts at Duke University. She works on projects about connectedness, loss, permeability of identity, and personal desires in a world full of mediated social programming. Her interests lie in exploring the possibility of the knowledge of self and others by examining historical and current media as a social construct. She recently received the 2013 Society for Photographic Education Award for Innovations in Imaging in Honor of Jeannie Pearce. Her work has been shown at Filter Photo’s Archetype Drift, the North Carolina Museum of Art, The Kiernan Gallery, and the Chianciano Art Museum in Italy.
