Opening Party: Nina Chanel Abney (Keohane Visiting Professor)

The following event is part of Nina Chanel Abney’s residency at Duke as one of our two Duke/UNC-CH Keohane Visiting Professors (2016-2018). These and other related events will be organized with her in this two year period on both campuses in collaboration with the FHI Social Practice Lab at Duke, and Keohane Collateral Series.

The Nasher Museum invites you to celebrate the opening of “Nina Chanel Abney: Royal Flush.” Meet the artist and enjoy live performances by student musicians and special guests inspired by Nina Chanel Abney’s visual commentary on social justice, contemporary urban life, media, hip-hop culture and more. Free and open to all!

Pierce Freelon (https://www.piercefreelon.com/) will be our M.C. for the evening, featuring Duke student saxophonist Edgeri Hudlin (https://www.edgeri.com/), youth poets from Blackspace (https://www.indyweek.com/music/archives/2016/06/16/space-is-the-place-durham-gets-a-hub-for-afrofuturist-thought-with-blackspace ) and the Nasher Teen Council (https://nasher.duke.edu/community/#teens) and Duke student Ashley Croker-Benn (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qqXjm0ihrCU), spoken word artist.
