ZoomKABOOM | Spatialized Sound Interactions and Minecraft Gatherings

November 2, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm UTC-5

This week’s Zoom KABOOM presents:

Spatialized Sound Interactions and Minecraft Gatherings
In the first half of our session, Mingyong Cheng will guide us through a few possibilities of spatialized and mapped audio interaction with High Fidelity. Once we are all comfortable there, we will abandon zoom entirely and will use High Fidelity as our audio source for the second half of the session, when Davienne Gabriel will guide us as Minecraft Education avatars.
No prior experience with either app is needed
Prior to meeting (if possible), please:
Enter free version of HighFidelity via email authentication (takes 1-3min):
and download/install the free Minecraft Education version (via Duke login) at:

About the series:
Zoom KABOOM!

One time registration will provide access to any one session, or as many as you want using the same access information:
This new SPL series is based on the sharing and production of online experiences and meeting places. How can we safely fight against the alienation of this pandemic, as well as other past and future obstacles to social life, be it the distances between us, our implicit hierarchies, or even specific features of our bodies? What can more immersive modes of remote shared experience bring to our life, dialogues, interactions, politics, artworks and performances? How can we leave Zoom behind us and forge a journey into alternate domains?
Accompanied with simple instructions on how to join, every Zoom KABOOM session includes at least one guide who is familiar with that week’s alternative platform. What we do or discuss as we experiment with alternative platforms will be different each time and it may or may not be directly related to a given platform.
Each session has three parts, starting with us gathering at our regular Zoom (Kaboom) link for 15min, then exploring the alternative platform for 30min, and ending with 15min group commentary, reflection or analysis at the regular zoom link. If a platform is conducive to conversation, we may stay there for the final part.
