Yeison F. García López & Espacio Afro

Yeison F. García López is a political scientist and anti-racist researcher. Yeison is a member and coordinator of the Afro Consciousness Association, Commissioner of the Afro Consciousness Festival (2016 to 2019), and Director of the Espacio Afro Cultural Center. Yeison received an honorable mention in the Culture category at the 2022 National Youth Awards and was a finalist for the 2022 Mandarache Awards in the poetry category.

After organizing the first Afroconciencia Festival in 2016 happening once a year at Matadero in Madrid since, Espacio Afro has been born as a cultural and political space to keep working on a daily basis on everything related to the African-Spanish and African/African diaspora community in Spain, through a broad cultural programme with a post-colonial perspective.

Espacio Afro is the first hub of African-Spanish culture in Spain and is organized by activists Esther Mayoko, Lucía Asué Mbomío, Deborah Ekoka, Yeison García, Rubén H. Bermúdez and Moha Gerehou.
