This course explores how artists have used theater to critique and provoke society since the time of the Greeks and even prior to written culture. Our focus will be on close readings of play texts across wide expanses of chronological times, cultural practices, and geographic locations. Students will be asked to articulate their own understanding of theatrical writing and performance as a social and political force by maintaining an e-Portfolio of critical writing assignments.
