November 9, 2016, in Story Lab, at
6:00 – 7:30PM
Faculty and students are invited to join a new Story Lab working group on Extinction Narratives, focusing on the ways in which concerns with loss of biodiversity (including the possible extinction of the human race) are understood, imagined, and narrativized. Our first meeting will consider three (recommended) works: the films Children of Men (2006) and 28 Weeks Later (2007), and the Introduction and Chapter 5 of Ursula Heise’s Imagining Extinction (2016). We will also discuss our plans for next semester. Dinner will be provided. Please RSVP to mack.zalin@duke.edu, noting dietary restrictions and whether you need a copy of the Heise reading.
