Participating in National Novel Writing Month has been a tradition at Duke Story Lab since our inception. The concept behind NaNoWriMo is simple: you join with an international community of writers to commit to writing 50,000 words during the month of November. That averages out to 1,666 per day. NaNoWriMo is about quantity, not quality. Thousands of writers have found the motivation to jumpstart or cross the finish line on their writing projects by participating in the annual challenge.
Story Lab had roughly 15 writers participate in NaNoWriMo last November. Of those, 3 writers hit the 50,000 word goal and all writers made progress on their projects, which ranged from collections of essays to screenplays to novels.
