Join us on Monday, October 30th, 12:00pm to 1:15pm, for a dialogue (via Skype) with Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor about the Combahee River Collective Statement. We will meet in the Social Movements Lab (Smith Warehouse, Bay 5).
Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor is the author of From #BlackLivesMatter to Black Liberation, an examination of the history and politics of Black America and the development of the social movement Black Lives Matter in response to police violence in the United States. Dr. Taylor is Assistant Professor at Princeton University in the Department of African American Studies. Dr. Taylor is also the editor of a forthcoming book, How We Get Free: Black Feminism and the Combahee River Collective. The Combahee River Collective, a group of radical black feminists, was one of the most important organizations to develop out of the anti-racist and women’s liberation movements of the 1960s and 70s. In this collection, founding members of the organization and contemporary activists reflect on the legacy of its contributions to black feminism and its impact on today’s struggles.
