Course: GLHLTH 584S
This class takes the discussion format of a graduate seminar and is designed for graduate and advanced undergraduate students. Our primary task is to read and discuss thirteen books over the course of the semester. We will study major events in the global history of medicine, such as the invention of “tropical medicine,” the series of transnational cholera epidemics that inspired the founding of the League of Nations Health Organization, the global circulation of germ theory, and the plight of indigenous medicine practitioners to gain recognition in state medical systems.
